Mira Maktabi

Mira Maktabi is a womenswear designer specializing in custom evening wear that combines versatility with personalized craftsmanship.. Her work is deeply rooted in the exploration of her personal identity as a Lebanese woman, with her designs serving as a canvas to examine female agency and identity. Through her creations, she delves into theories of the gaze, representation, and intersectionality, challenging the socio-religious constraints placed on the female body. Her designs exude a strong, intentional, chic, and elegant attitude.

Mira’s signature style focuses on bias draping with delicate fabrics that fall gracefully on the body, resembling modern sculptures. She draws inspiration from iconic designers such as Madame Grès and Madeleine Vionnet. A key part of her creative process involves draping on herself, allowing her to intimately understand and refine each silhouette. Prioritising fabric quality and craftsmanship, Mira designs garments meant to be cherished for generations. She predominantly works with silk satin, georgette, various weights of wool suiting, and leather. Her attention to detail extends to hidden elements, such as satin under-collars, creating a personal and sensual connection for the wearer. Mira’s designs marry classic and contemporary influences. Delicate satin pieces are contrasted with more tailored pieces inspired by 80s Giorgio Armani menswear and her personal collection of vintage garments. Her design approach subverts polished ladylike silhouettes by introducing heavy outerwear, semi-sheer black tailoring, and vintage men’s brogues, creating something new and powerful.

In March 2024, Mira graduated from the MA Fashion Womenswear program at Central Saint Martins. She debuted her collection at London Fashion Week as part of the CSM MA show in February 2024. Mira’s recent accomplishments include being a panelist for the launch of 5’Eleven Magazine's 12th issue, where she discussed her heritage, design practice, and creative processes. The magazine featured a five-page editorial of her collection and an in-depth interview. Additionally, she has been interviewed by New Wave Magazine and Yung Middle East following the release of her graduate collection. Her designs have graced the pages of L’Officiel Arabia, Vogue, Schön magazine, Marlè magazine, among others.

Mira Maktabi is debuting her eponymous label in London, where the brand warmly welcomes pre-orders for its latest collection and offers bespoke design experiences.
