Rabih Kayrouz’s Spring/Summer 2022 couture collection explored the boundaries between ready-to-wear and couture. The Lebanese couturier, who prides himself on sculptural and wearable couture, presented his latest collection, digitally, with an elusive, dark set, featuring a 360-degree staircase serving as the backdrop. From sharp cuts and cleaned up silhouettes, to red carpet-worthy evening dresses, this season’s collection embraced the Maison’s purity.
Intricate construction is embedded in the Maison’s DNA. In Kayrouz’s latest collection, the Maison embraced the present, but was also inspired by the future as the designers explored new materials such as vinyl and jersey, with defined volumes and structured silhouettes serving as a continuation from previous collections. This season’s woman was described as strong, decisive, yet fragile, exuding love and pride. Her aura is reflected in the Maison’s sharp lines through structured dresses, jackets and coats, and elongated silhouettes in pants, skirts and shorts.
Kayrouz’s simple, yet defined vision is seen throughout the collection. While some may think the accentuated curves on the dresses, such as Look 4, are achieved through padding, they are in fact the result of meticulous patterns — for each is haute couture, the core and mother of design.
The Maison’s craft-intensive designs, while sharp, move so effortlessly, further defining the woman seen throughout, soft and sensual as she strolls city at night, “glowing and radiating with warmth”.
Rabih Kayrouz’s couture is easy, fresh and forward thinking. The Kayrouz woman loves fashion, not for its flashiness, but rather for its design and construction. She understands that good fashion is great design, and this collection is just that — great, sharp design.
