Modern creativity from the brand’s inception in 2017 has been at the core of Maison MJZ. Being pioneers in exotic fashion, the brand’s founder and Creative Director Michael Chang’s pursuit of sartorial design is intergenerational.
Inspired by his mothers wardrobe and love for all things art, Michael is drawn to timeless sophistication and class. Drawing on his international experiences and cosmopolitan perspective to deliver the vanguard of exclusive luxury garments at the heart of MJZ, the men’s women’s couture collection, which mainly consists of exotic skins, including luxurious crocodile and alligator outerwear are all one of a kind and made to order and measure. By adhering to the highest ethical standards, all exotic kinds are sourced from reputable tanneries in France and Italy after going through rigorous and vetted research.
MJZ’s affinity with exotic skins was, namely, crocodile was introduced in the first couture collection — a capsule collection between Michael & Irina Shabayeva. The collection was for both, men and women. Irina joined MJZ full-time the following year to design all the women’s collections, including the full ready to wear collection.
Maison MJZ’s ready-to-wear collection aims to elevate casualwear beyond traditional boundaries. From an array of dresses, skirts, outwear, bags and more — each piece is constructed with precision fusing a selection of high quality materials such as Japanese cotton, jersey, calf skin and lamb skin leather, calf suede, and Ponte fabric.
Disposability and throw-away garments are themes prevalent in the fashion industry; however, Maison MJZ aims to create timeless pieces that stand the test of time, void of yearly release cycles. Through a deep reverence to traditional craftsmanship, MJZ designs are the harmonious union of contemporary imagination and timeless sophistication. In fact, every part of an MJZ jacket; whether it be the crocodile skin or the use of the hardware is shaped and perfected by the human hand.
