This November is all about the game and the World Cup in Qatar. But on the side, some great fashion events occurred in the region, all of which are worth talking about. Here are five highlights as we roll into winter.

Until We Drown by Ahmed Amer

This video was made by sophomore Tala Amer, the sister of the Lebanese avant-garde designer Ahmed Amer, as a tribute to her brother. “Until We Drown” reveals, in an infinitely poetic style, the universe of an artist violently torn away from his home village, because of the rejection he faced from his community. It is said that it takes a whole village to raise a child. Ahmed Amer was not so lucky, but his parents helped him to pursue his artistic dreams by embracing social disgrace. A jewel.

Emergency Room Release Borderline Collection

The new collection from sustainable brand Emergency Room, under the artistic direction of its founder Eric Ritter (an FTA Prize 2020 finalist), speaks to us of borders in a world that was meant to be global but is increasingly compartmentalized. “Borderline” features garments made from heterogeneous stocks and fabrics, handpicked second-hand materials: sweaters made from supporters’ scarves, shirts made from collages of flags, T-shirts printed with custom stamps, and burgundy jackets embroidered, like passport covers, with the emblem of Neverland, Emergency Room’s imaginary country.

The Hoodies Couture by Tony Ward

Well, fashion did not entirely escape football fever. Celebrated for his haute couture creations, Tony Ward has never done streetwear, but the zeitgeist inspired him to create a limited edition of hoodies that everyone wants to have right now, precisely for their couture touch. “Couture x Tony Ward Hoodies are out of step with the world of couture, yet they’re perfectly side by side,” says the house. Clever pleats mimic the balloon kicking the goal. Embroidered balloons pop like bubbles or light up with sequins on perfectly cut sweatshirts. Hayya, hayya!
