The MENA region’s biggest fashion event, the FTA Prize Gala dinner, took place just two days ago, and we’re still reeling from the fallout of all the glitz and glam that powered that night. Some of the biggest names in the industry, including Irina Shayk, Naomi Campbell, Virgil Albloh and Pierpaolo Piccioli celebrated the best in MENA design, creativity and entrepreneurship.
The much-anticipated FTA red carpet did not disappoint. The star studded lineup of regional and international guests took the opportunity to embrace and honor Arab fashion in all its glory. Piccioli descended to the red carpet in a ‘dishdasheh,’ or ‘thobe’, — a long robe typically worn by men from the Arabian Peninsula, Naomi Campbell chose a highly embellished co-ord set featuring gold and feather-like details from Syrian designer Rami Ali.
Supermodel Adriana Lima stunned in a floor length chiffon dress with an embellished bodice from Lebanese couturier Zuhair Murad. Meanwhile, Julianne Hough opted for a Tony Ward gown featuring a ‘Shayla,’ paying her respects to the modesty that marks so much of Middle Eastern culture. Singer-songwriter Dana Hourani looked like a gladiator goddess in a two piece metallic cut out co-ord from Egypt’s Mrs Keepa.
Lebanese content creator Nathalie Fanj and presenter Diala Makki donned gowns by Elie Saab, and Coco Rocha towered in a white piece featuring laser cut feather detailing on a long cape from Georges Chakra. The supermodel took to Instagram to share her excitement about being there, saying, “So happy to be here celebrating and supporting our talented fashion family in the Middle East and North Africa. Tonight was a beautiful night under the stars.”
This year’s red carpet at the FTA Prize Gala was absolutely hype-worthy. FTA’s impact and its constant ability to build and bridge the gaps between the East and West is something to celebrate. Arab fashion once again proved that it does have a seat at the table and the third of November event was just remarkable. Until next year.
